Welcome to the 1st of October Luton & Dunstable MGOC Newsletter.
Club Business.
Due to some unforeseen weather issues and increased club costs we are down to just below
£60 in the club funds, so will be looking to increase the club membership fee to £10pp from
next year. This will allow us to purchase a new Gazebo and build up the club funds to cover
increased costs and any essential expenditures in the future.
Wednesday Wanderers Report.
Report of Wednesday Wanderings: Wanderings Cancelled due to adverse weather.
The next planned event is….to be confirmed..
The Next Club Events.
October is sparse especially considering the recent flooding and bad weather.
We have one show that is still potentially on depending upon the state of the field, which is Pitstone
Museum’s open day on the 13th October.
But I will need to check with the show organisers closer to the date to confirm it’s not cancelled and make a call if it’s not and we want to risk it.
Christmas –
We have the Wednesday Wanderers Christmas meal on Wednesday the 27th
November and the main club Christmas meal on Saturday the 14th of December – please
check out Janet’s email for details.
Report on Sywell Piston and Props and what happened to the emergency Gazebo!
We attended Sywell Pistons and Props which should have been a 2 day club event but the
Sunday was cancelled and those with passes should be contacted by the event organisers
with a free pass for next years show, bet those who went on Saturday wish that they had
been down for Sunday!
Saturday’s report – It drizzled on the way to the meeting point but cleared up and hoods
dropped for the journey to Sywell Aerodrome.
We set up the club stand in bright sunshine and enjoyed the wing walking display as well as the stands and stalls, returning to the Gazebo for lunch.
The dark clouds appeared on the horizon but the weather app said it would not rain till we went home, oh boy was this wrong!
We had light rain just after lunch, so stayed at the stand, then the rain increased and was joined by thunder and lightning, to add to the drama hailstones the size of marbles joined in, our “just carry on” attitude started to slip when the rain increased as did the winds and we got yet more thunder and lightning.
This was some of the heaviest wind and rain I think I’ve ever been out in. and finally the winds
increased to gale force and destroyed our Gazebo, ripped it out of the ground broke it apart
and deposited it some 10 meters away. Luckily no one was hurt or any cars damaged but
the journey home was wet and miserable!
New Gazebo discussion
Due to the above – size and weight requirements plus carriage to and from shows.
Pub Night.
Will be on Tuesday 15th October (around 20:30 or earlier if dining) at the Jolly
Topers, 369 Hitchin Road, Luton, LU2 7SP Tel. 01582 725008 (going local due to the
weather forecast).
Events coming up.
Club stands will be booked if the organisers of the shows allow, however the recent trend is for organisers to only allow individuals to book on-line with various options employed for the club stand option, examples are:- Club Name for Chiltern Hills Rally and a club code issued for Kimbolton .
Some shows are turn up only and a few are display by age – we will endeavour to advise you of how and when to book your tickets well in advance where possible.
Shows we might do – for discussion:
Last open day at Pitstone Museum – Sunday 13th October – Muddy / water logged field to
consider.
Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show – NEC Birmingham on the 8th to 10th November –
