Welcome to the 5th 0f November Luton & Dunstable MGOC Newsletter
Club Business:
We have now secured a new Gazebo, this should be able to be joined with our larger Gazebo
if needed, but is smaller and lighter so should help in transporting it to car shows etc. – the
cost will appear on next years finances.
To try and encourage a bigger turn out the next few pub nights will be very local and on a main road just in case the BBC’s Snow forecast ever happens!
Wednesday Wanderers Report:
Wanderings to Buckingham.
For our October outing, a group of 10 members travelled to Buckingham and we only came across 2 sets of roadworks and no diversions.
As it took so long to queue and pay for our parking (only 1 out of 3 machines were working), we decided to go for lunch first and we enjoyed a good hot meal at a pub.
We then walked to the Old Gaol and Museum which is a very impressive building.
It houses a large and varied collection of historical local and military artefacts, displayed in the former cells.
These still have their thick double wooden doors in place with the observation hatches which made it a bit eerie.
However it was an interesting visit. Afterwards some members stopped at a tearoom and we all took a different route home to avoid the long queue at the roadworks.
The next Wednesday wanderings will be:
WW Christmas Lunch on the 27th of November at the Five Bells in Henlow
The Next Club Events:
We have transitioned into our more social orientated calendar now that the car show
season is at an end.
We have the Classic Motor Show at the NEC from the 8th to the 10th of November – for anyone going the £4 discount code is CCCNOV209.
We usually have a few club members attending and as per previous years Brenda and David will be on the Triumph Roadster Stand, so if you want to go and say hello and maybe nab a seat and possibly a tea or Coffee you are always welcome.
Christmas:
We have the Wednesday Wanderers Christmas lunch on Wednesday the 27th November and everyone should have paid their deposits and the remainder is now due.
The main Club Christmas Meal is on Saturday the 14th of December – please check out Janet’s
recent email for details and costs as we will need to pay for this very soon..
New Gazebo discussion:
Agreed at last club meeting to purchase a smaller and lighter Gazebo with the option to connect to our larger Gazebo with possibly a few modifications required to a side or to our existing joiner for the rare occasions when we need more space or shelter from the rain!.
Pub Night:
Pub Night will be on Tuesday 19th November (around 20:30 or earlier if dining) at the
Hansom cab, Wigmore lane, Stopsley, Luton, LU2 8AB Tel. 01582 727400 going local due
to the time of year and to encourage a larger turn out – last month we had 2 club member who
have never attended a pub night – could it be 2 in a row?!
Social Calendar:
This year we have celebrated quite a few significant Birthdays from Kyle’s 21st, a couple of young at heart 60’s and two just as spritely 70’s plus an amazing 3 octogenarian’s – here’s looking to many more.
Below is something that Geoff sent to me to include in this months newsletter:
“Thank you all for you generous MGers for the presents given to Hilary and me. we combined our vouchers for this water feature. we have wanted one for some time and you have helped us to get it”.
We have also sadly had a couple of recent bereavements associated with the club.
Our heart felt condolences go out to Brenda’s whose Mother past away in September and to Brian who’s dad past away last month.
Events coming up:
Club stands will be booked if the organisers of the shows allow, however the recent trend is for organisers to only allow individuals to book on-line with various options employed for the club stand option, examples are:- Club Name for Chiltern Hills Rally and a club code issued for Kimbolton.
Some shows are turn up only and a few are display by age, we will endeavour to advise you of how and when to book your tickets well in advance where possible.
Shows we might do – for discussion:
Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show – NEC Birmingham on the 8th to 10th November –
